Created over a four-year process of development, When the Mirror Birds Sings is a mythical tale of kindness overcoming greed. Featuring Max Richter’s magnificent recomposition of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, the performance is an intimate and immersive experience where children’s participation amplifies the themes of hope and renewal.

In 2023, the production is undergoing development under the astute direction of The PaperBoats’ Associate Artistic Director, Temeka Lawlor who will also perform in the piece alongside the very talented Stephen Noonan.

“My class of 7 and 8 year olds had the amazing experience of workshopping their participation in When the Mirror Birds Sings. They were enthusiastically engaged and fully participating – a new and enriching experience they will never forget. The performance itself was mesmerizing, simple in concept and powerful in message.  I watched totally captivated and emotionally moved, frequently blinking away tears.”

“From the very beginning I was completely captivated, mesmerised!  A deeply moving performance which was archetypically layered and elegant. The Vivaldi was sublime accompaniment. Juliet and Scott are a beautifully connected duo. I had a tear in the corners of both eyes the whole time; it was so so beautiful. Thank you for this luscious experience! “

“As an educator I thought the Mirror Bird concept was fabulous as it required children to use their imagination and they were absolutely hooked the whole time! I liked how the props were simple and not too prescriptive and had multiple purposes. The children had to read between the lines and make deductions; they weren’t spoon fed! AND the adults enjoyed it as much as the children!”
